Just for your interest, Lancaster PB465 was delivered new to 103 Squadron and was my father's aircraft, nicknamed "Mudpool Maggie II" where my mother Margaret was affectionately known as Mudpool Maggie I. She painted the nose art of the side of the ****pit. Father Tony was lucky - his last operation with the aircraft was on November 27th 1944 and PB465 "bought it" only 2 days later in that mid air collsion. Cheers Andy Frish
Andy,
I was amazed to come across your post. My uncle was your Dad's navigator through-out their entire operational tour (according to his flight log). Pls e-mail me at Permia@live.com and perhaps we could exchange information and photos (of which I have a couple).
Yes I do have pictures of the nose art. In fact I can do better than that - I have wartime shots (b&w of course) of the nose art on the aircraft and you are most welcome to scans of that. However, some years ago it occurred to me that I had never seen a colour rendition of the nose art and I asked my mother whether she could draw me a copy. She was a remarkable artist and did so from memory in the space of about half an hour! Obviously I have that also, and again you are most welcome to a scan of it. Please contact me on email address supervc10@adam.com.au and I'd be delighted to assist. i also have pictures of the aircraft itself standing at Elsham Wolds and various other trinkets you may be interested in. I look forward to you getting in touch. Regards Andy F
