My Uncle was in bommber command

Hello Pete

His name was Albert Edward(?) Daily and as far as I know he was a navigator. That is all I know I'm afraid.

He obviously survived the war as there is no mention of him on the WW2 roll of honour.

Googling "Albert Edward Daily" brings up too many hits so I don't think that is a sensible route for me to go down.

The next step is to look in the AIR78 index at the National Archives (to see if we can find his service number).

I will keep digging around and see what I can turn up, but I think your best bet may be his service record.

Regards

Pete

Unless he was an officer the only RAF NCO with that combination of initials and surname was 117783 A.E. Dailey. No Christian names provided unfortunately.

Regards,

Dave

edit:

Oops, that was duff gen. Sorry. I can find no one with the spelling "Daily" and those initials.

Is that information from AIR78?. I have been trying to find "Daily" on the NA AIR78 Index but that section appears to be missing (it seems to go from Curtis to Danes)

Regards

Pete

No, it's there, Pete. AIR78/41 Cund to Daneman. Around the 200 pages in mark. Just nothing with the spelling the OP has.

Regards,

Dave

If you can provide a full name and/or service number and/or anything that you know about his trade or postings, we may be able to provide you with some feedback.

Have you tried obtaining his RAF service record?. You can apply online but you will have to prove that you are next of kin if you want the complete record (otherwise you will only get an abridged version). They cost about £30 (I think) and I understand that they are taking about a year to come through at the moment .... but they are worth the wait if you want the detail of his service.

Good luck with your search

Regards

Pete

I did start looking at 78/41 but the first name was Cund and the last page (2310) had Curtis so I couldn't work out which end to start .... so I'm glad you found it.

Ian

Dave and I have probably gone as far as we can with the information that you provided; Can you check the details that you have and/or think of another snippet of information that will help

Regards

Pete

Thanks for the help guys.

The name is frequently misspelled but I would think the RAF/MOD would get it right, but you never know, there was a war on.

He would have been 18 at the outbreak of war. My Dad said he was an officer but that cannot be taken as fact.

Regards

Ian
