I am looking for advice from the members of this forum. In july of this year my wife and I plan to visit England and France to retrace the path of my father. My father,RCAF  F/Sgt. Allan Harpell, served with 49 Sqn and 424 Sqn during World War Two. On July 18 he took off from Fiskerton and was shot down over France. With the aid of the French resistance he evaded capture and returned to England. We would like to hear any advice members of the forum may have for us that would aid in our journey. My email is tharpell@sympatico.ca   Thank you in advance, yours truly Tom Harpell

Tom,

Have you a copy of your father's evasion questionnaire? If so, it should give addresses and names of those who hid him in France.

It's at the UK National Archives at Kew. WO208 3326 2901 is the file number.

Regards,

Dave

Hi Tom,

There are a couple of paid researchers who will go in there, photograph the pages and email them to you. It costs around 20 Canadian.

You do require your dad's full name and the file number I gave you:

I am not connected to these people at all. I can only say that I have seen/heard nothing but good things.

Regards,

Dave

Hello Dave, Thanks for the info. I don't have a copy but I would very much like to get a copy. Can you tell me how to go about getting a copy? Thanks again, cheers, Tom

Tom,

It would be interesting to contact the WW2 Escape Lines Memorial Society. They have research teams with expertise on escapers and evaders. There are also the following sources:
Book - RAF Evaders - Oliver Clutton-Brock
Website - http://www.conscript-heroes.com

Enjoy the search :)
