I have volunteered to research a RAFVR airman named on our local Kilmun (Argyll) War Memorial.
So far, I have discovered that he was:
1559239 Sgt John WEBSTER. He was an Air Gunner with 35 (PFF) Sqdn flying in a Lancaster NE 175.
He was KIA on 25 July 1944, aged 21. He is buried in Joint Grave 8 A21-22 in Durnbach CWGC Cemetery.
Can anyone out there help with any additional info. ie the target ? his crew ? were they KIA/evaded/PoW ?
or any other relevant or useful pointers.
On a personal note, I am related to an Australian airman (and named after) Ian MacKenzie. The website "Reims Monuments MacKenzie" is worth a look ! (He is remembered on 3 Continents in 3 Museums and has a street named after him.
I am in the process of piecing together a history of 35 Squadron, so if you access my profile and send me an e-mail I will be able to provide you with additional information
Regards
Pete
