Sgt Rattray hailed from Hamilton, Ontario. He was the son of Joseph D. Rattray, and Elizabeth nee Swift. Joseph is described in contemporary newspaper reports as a "pilot in the Royal Flying Corps in the First Great War"
Joseph Duncan Rattray has an RFC file at Kew.
Of interest to you will be that he had a sister named Doreen. Another sister, NormaJean was born post-war. Sadly, both are now deceased. Doreen, earlier this year:

W7760 may have been shot down by Ofw Hans Berschwinger of 4./NJG2 for his 6th victory. He claimed a Halifax at 02.04hrs, 20 km out over the North Sea north of Wangerooge. It may also have been 78 Sqn W1184 which was also lost without trace. Berschwinger had a total of 12 victories before he was killed in an air combat at Radel on 15 Feb 1944.
I hope that helps, sorry for the delay in replying but my internet has been down for about 10 days.
Norman would have been the uncle of my ex wife. His military file is accessible on Ancestry. I do have a photograph of him. If anyone likes they can email me at vgibbs@gmail.com and I will send them the image.
