I have a Mid-War British Irvin Flying Jacket. On the back is written F/Lt. Holland 141397 (I think the initials are W.M.). I am trying to find out any information at this person and would be very grateful for any help,
Searching The London Gazette online site using the service number 141397 throws up William Henry Holland, commissioned 5/2/43,gazetted 6/4/43,N.C.O.number 1059402.It also list his various promotions and also being Mentioned In Dispatches 1/1/45.No further details I am afraid.
Search for The London Gazette, then on the main page use the Advanced Search facility, enter the service number you have into the box marked 'With the exact phrase' and press the button marked search. You should then get four results which you can view by clicking on the 'See PDF' button.
I am the youngest son of Flt/Lt William Henry Holland (141397)
My Dad, (Bill Holland) flew spitfires and was shot down 27/6/1941. He then spent the rest of the war as a POW. He died in the 80's but I am the youngest and there is a daughter and another (older) son.
Thank you very much for your reply. I am sorry I have taken so long to reply, but I have not been on this site for a while. Would it be possible for you to e-mail me any photos, documents or information with regards to your Father?
The jacket is in perfect condition and is well looked after, it is amazing to find out more about the owner of this jacket,
