Hi all

My Grandfather, Norman Quick, 130698, was a Navigator on Handley Page Halifax and Avro Lancasters during WW2.

I have his Flying Logs which show he was at various O.T.U and Coneversion Units. I am most interested in the following periods. From June to November 1943 he was with 102 Squadron at RAF Poclington flying on Halifax and from November 1944 to May 1945 he was with 150 Squadron at RAF Hemswell flying on Lancaster.

He is on the DVD 'Nightbombers' filmed at Hemswell and I have a few photographs as well.

Does anyone specialise in these squadrons or aircraft and can help me further my research?

Thanks very much

sam

Hi Sam,

it might be worth contacting the 102 Squadron Association below, if not done so already.

http://www.102ceylonsquadron.co.uk/

I have the 'Nightbombers' DVD that has excellant colour footage of the Lancaster.

According to this months Flypast magazine there flying the Canadian Lancaster to the UK in August. The display dates have not yet been confirmed but to see and hear two Lancasters at once is going to be something special.

Regards,

Mike

Thank you Mike

I've contacted the 102 Squadron Association several times by email, text and phone. All with no answer which is really disappointing.

In the Nightbombers DVD my Grandfather is described as a 'Specialist' who debriefs the air crews after their operations.

I'll keep an eye out for future air shows and Lancasters.

Ive managed to find out the history of each Lancaster he was on and I have a few photographs too.

I'm still hoping someone specialising in (or a member of 102 Squadron Association) Lancasters, Halifax or either squadron to get in touch.

Thanks very much

Sam

Sam

Have you obtained copies of the Operations Record Books for the time he was with each of the squadrons?. The monthly summary should provide details of all operations / officer postings and the daily record should provide more details on operations, aircraft used, crews etc.

They are available to download from the National Archives website on a month by month basis (£3.36 each [ie one month will cost you £3.36 for the summary and £3.36 for the daily]).

If you need any help in finding the files I would be happy to provide you with a list of file numbers

Regards

Pete

Hi Pete

Are you on other forums sites?

Coincidently another member on another site has helped me a great deal. They have a live.co.uk email address.

If it you was you then thanks very much for all your help. I'm piecing together the histories of the individual Halifax aircraft now.

Thanks

Sam

Hi Sam

I am on other forum sites and noticed your threads, along with the various responses; I only realised today that they are all inter-linked.

I haven't responded on others as you seem to be getting the information you need but if I can be of any help you know where I am

Regards

Pete

Thank you pete

I'm just trying to reach out to as many people in different directions as I can. I've met you and a few other extremely helpful and very knowledgable people by doing this.

Obviously if anyone else is knowledgable on these squadrons or aircraft please email me - sam_martin82 @ hotmail.com. Delete any gaps in the address, just in case my email couldn't be shown.

Thankyou

Sam
