Hi, I am trying to locate further information concerning my uncle (William Horsley 1198644who was (I believe) killed in an air training accident at Waterbeach on March 14th 1943 flying in a (famous) Sterling Mk 1 N6086
Any help / points in the right direction appreciated
Hi RB, Your Uncles details can be found on the CWGC War Graves Project http://twgpp.org/information.php?id=593158 the only additional information this gives is that he was a W.Op./Air Gnr
The only other search you will also already know about and that is concerning his family tree that must have been done by a relative. http://www.ancientfaces.com/person/william-arthur-horsley/164244333
It may be worth posting on the Short Sterling Forum http://sas.raf38group.org/forum/viewforum.php?f=4
Hope this is of some help. Regards, Gary

According to Chorley's book They were flying W6086 'J MacRoberts Reply' and took off from Waterbeach when one engine failed, while seeking to make an emergency landing the pilot lost control and crashed heavily at 2100hrs into Oakington village, Cambridgeshire and not far from the local airfield. As you may know your uncle is buried in Cambridge City Cemetery.
