there is a book called 'Striking through Clouds' a diary of 514 squadron you can search through the book below but there is only a photo of Sgt Robert Guy, the rear gunner of the crew.
Peter,
Your grandfather's aircraft, LL645, crashed on return to the UK, from the Nuremburg Raid of March 30th 1944, killing two of the crew, and severely injuring your grandfather and another of the crew. His pilot, W. Chitty, returned to duty with another crew, only to be lost later in the year. I have a copy of the 514sqdn Operations Record Book, and would be only too happy to give details of this, and previous operations flown by this crew.
Alan.
PM me your email address if you want many details that I hold, among which detailed circumstance when L.A. Ive was severely injured 31 March 1944 5:50. Operation Nuremberg night 30-31/03/1944, recovered and flew again in November.
For 514 Squadron database, I am interested to know the spelling of his initials "L.A."
Peter Wateridge, For information at the time of the crash, LL645 was not A2-R but JI-R of 'B Flight 514 Squadron'. Before, till the 1st half of March 44 he was coded A2-H of 'C Flight'. I'll work today with my docs then I'll email you 2 links to reach my archives for L.A. Ive information. It would be great if meanwhile you can tell me the spelling for initials L.A. to completing my spreadsheet.
