I am researching Sgt Francis Theodore Kearney age 22, Service No 650014 149 Sqdrn RAF, K.I.A. 1st July 1941 at 22:41 hrs. He was my wife's second cousin. He was a W.OP air gunner on a Wellington bomber Mk 1c Serial 1408 code OJ-J which crashed near Kerborhel- Keraguen nr Plouzane France. He is buried in Plouzane cemetery France with the rest of the crew.
We believe there was some sort of archeolgical dig. We are trying to find evidence of the dig ie photos and location. We believe his mission was brest but cannot find any confirmation of this. We also are trying to find out why he crashed. Was he shot down or did it just crash ?
Graham,
I can supply you with information from the 149sqdn Operations Book for this date, and any previous operations this crew took part in.
Regards...Alan.
We were told that the aircraft hit a barrage balloon or was hit by anti aircraft fire but no one could confirm this. Most of the people who knew Frank no longer with us.
We happened to find two photos of him in uniform, he must be 20, 21. which started us on this search.

Hi Alan
Thank you.
Any information you can supply will be gratefully received.
This search started when we found 2 photos of Frank, he must be 20, 21 in uniform.
Nice to see your post. I'm the author of the picture of the bomb disposal and information previously mentioned, and the recent author of a first book "1940-1944 En leur mémoire" (www.aerostories.org/~aerobiblio/) in which there are several pages in memory of this Wellington crew. I'm already in touch with both the pilot and 2nd pilot relatives, am one of those who took part to the remains research, found pictures ...
