Does anyone know how I can find the I'd no of jb789 it came to a tradgic end when it hit st James church spire on 10 may 1944. Infact any info or pics relating to plane and crew.cheers steve.

Hi Steve,

Halifax JB789 belonged to 1658 HCU (Heavy Conversion Unit) RAF Riccall. Previously 158 Squadron but cannot find any aircraft code

Five of the crew were RAAF. You can find information about them by conducting a record search (using service numbers) through the National Archives of Australia.

Thanks for that its just that the flight engineer was my mums friend RAF Sgt derrick McDermott. he flew in her that nightand died with all the crew.iI'm trying to find out how they came to hit st james spire.as going to build a model of plane a attribute.thanks again steve
