In the last few months I have done a lot of research into my Uncle Leslie Turner and visited his grave in Hannover. He was lost on his 8th Raid on Kassel on 03/10/1943. The anecdotal evidence I have passed on through the family was that they were attacked by a night fighter, this came after the sole survivor Sgt S.E. Waldron visited my Grandparents after the war. Is there any body on the forum that could help me find out if this was the case please ? or at least point me in the right direction. Thanks in advance.
The aircraft was reported to have crashed at Mulhausen

The Nachtjagd War Diaries by Dr Theo Boiten show a possible nightfighter claim by Hptm. Leopold Fellerer at 22.57 40km S Kassel.
I will contact Theo for you to see if this is the latest information that he has (see his response in separate post below).
Additional Notes: The Bomber Command Loss Card does not provide any further details, other than Waldron "landed over Melsfeld". In addition, the CWGC records show that the crew were initially buried at Spangenberg Old Cemetery [This may help you with possible crash location]
Regards
Pete

Wow !! Tremendous respect and gratitude guys!. Mixed feelings though actually looking at the man that shot my uncle Leslie and his crew down. War is a very bad thing indeed. Thank you again.
Theo has asked me if you have a photograph of the crew / aircraft that he can include in the next edition of the War Diaries. Can you contact me via my 35 Squadron Research site so that I can liaise with you on this matter
Pete - I only have a photo of my Uncle in his uniform at home in Derby. I do have two group photos from when he was doing basic training at Blackpool though -you would be welcome to all three. I am in touch with the relative of air gunner John Beecher who also died in LK904T - I am hopeful that this might bear some info.

Gary
Just out of interest Kurt Welter survived the war with a total of 51-53 night victories and 6 day victories. I have a photo of him if you would like it. Contact me off board on harleyDOT158ATbigpondDOTcom replace the DOT & AT with the usual.
Thank you John I have three photos from the net there is quite a bit of info for him. Yes he survived but was killed at a railway crossing when tree logs came off a train and hit his car - How bizarre.
Thanks for that up date. Its a bit like Schnaufer killed after the war by a French truck with bad brakes. My Dad's best mate at school was killed on the same raid on Kassel. Bill Highland, Rear Gunner on 15 Sqn Stirling BF470 which was shot down by Oblt Fritz Lau of 3./NJG1.
