I'm investigating the emergancy landing of Short Stirling LJ873 on September the 23rd 1944. The plane belonged to 620 squadron RAF and was flown by squadron commander Donald Henry Lee D.F.C. The plane landed in Ussen , just west of Oss ( Holland). All crew members survived and evaded. The complete crew was:
Pilot: Donald Henry Lee D.F.C 33140
Navigator: E.Pratt
Flight Engineer: B.Naylor
Bomb Aimer: J.P.Baker
Wireless Operator:A.D.Heard D.F.M. 172746
Air Gunner: M.Hennessey
There were also two air despatchers on board.
I'm trying to find the relatives of the crew members and infomation about the plane/crew.
Have you been in touch with the Short Stirling Aircraft Association? http://www.pegelsoft.nl/saa1.htm
A Brazilian airman died on the 21st September 1944, on a machine of 190 Squadron. I am writing a full book tribute to ALL Brazilians and Anglo-Brazilians in RAF Service, 1939-45. I do remember Reading some booklets from the Short Stirling Aircraft Association about memories of airmen that flew the Stirling on the Market Garden...I can not remember by heart now, if the aircraft you are looking for was related.
Wish you good success
