Swedish Flak : smoke and mirrors or real danger?

During the night of August 29/44 my Dad and his crew took part in a raid on Stettin, now a part of Poland. The route , both there and back took them across southern Sweden. I have read conflicting accounts about Swedish anti aircraft fire directed at the bomber stream which technically violated Swedish neutrality.  Some crew accounts talk of the flak being heavy, but all the shells fuzed to explode thousands of feet below them! It would put on a show for any German observers, but posed no real threat. Other accounts say Swedish A.A. did shoot down dozens of Allied bombers during the course of the war.

Does anyone have any further information, sources, insight etc...?

Cheers, Clint.
